FAQs - Tanned By Krista Ann

FAQs

Before: If you get a full pedicure or manicure make sure the heavy lotion they put on is off the legs or hands before you visit us. Either by scheduling your pedicure/nail appt several days before your spray appointment or manually scrubbing off that heavy lotion they put on them.

After: I don’t recommend getting a full pedicure after your spray tan as the exfoliant they use on the legs will rub off your tan, but you can still obviously have them just paint the toes & not rub your legs. As for nails they can be painted, get a full set, etc after your spray, but acetone and hand washing will wear the tan as well. Although, the hands and face fade quickly regardless, because they are washed excessively.

No, it is not recommended. Soaking in any water for a long period of time will soften your skin, & it will make your skin cells shed faster, and that takes your tan with it.

Yes, your cosmetic bronzers can potentially rub off on your sheets until you rinse for the first time. Although, usually it comes out when you throw them in the washer.

No, using a washcloth, loofah or anything else that exfoliates will scrub your tan off.

No, the owner of TBKA (biologist) wants clients to know we do not customize solutions to fit your skin tone, because it is not necessary chemically or even plausible to do so. Solutions have different amounts of DHA in them to give you your desired shade of color plus dyes (cosmetic bronzers). These bronzers allow your technician to visually see where they are spraying. The only thing a salon can match to your skin tone are these cosmetic bronzers which are gone after the first rinse. That is a day or less after your appointment. Therefore, there is no need to match anything to your skin tone. We recommend you consider just how dark you want to be and choose your shade based on that. DHA percentage increases with the darker the shade you desire.

Your tan will last you a different time than anyone else based on your skin, how you prepare for your spray, & how well you care for your tan after your appointment with us. Usually, your tan will last 1-2 weeks. Some of our clients brag they can get 3 weeks out of their tan!

Your spray 1-2 days before your event is best. Remember to book your appointment as far in advance as you can to ensure you can get an appointment on the best day and time for you.

STAY DRY- NO SWEATING, HANDWASHING, DOING DISHES ETC. until first rinse.

Let your tan develop for 12-24 hours (traditional spray) or 1-3 hours if you purchased a rapid solution.

During your first shower and all showers after, while you have your tan, blot yourself dry. Rubbing harshly will shed your spray off faster.

Moisturize A LOT! At least twice a day. Drink lots of water.

Remember to tell your spouse their hands can get dark (develop) if they touch your skin before your first shower.

Also remember the palms of your hands can darken (develop) if you touch your own skin before your first shower (hands on hips, touching face, and crossing/rubbing your arms with your hands.)

For your first rinse:

Try not to use soap or wash your hair. Just get in the shower to rinse off your bronzer with warm water scrubbing your skin hard with your hands. No loofas or washcloths for the entire life of your tan. Soap and hair washing can be resumed after the first rinse.

Make sure to wear loose clothing to your appointment. You do not want to wear tight clothing as it can potentially alter your results.

Women may go nude. Think about what tan lines & make sure you are comfortable standing in front of your technician.

Yes, soaking in any water for a long period of time will soften your skin, & your skin will shed faster. It will take your tan with it.

Yes! You are not protected from the sun. You can both burn or tan naturally while you have your spray tan.

The three things that can cause your spray to come off in splotches is due to a poor quality solution, bad prep, and or bad aftercare. No worries. We use the best solutions & another big impact is your prep+aftercare. To promote the best fading for your tan make sure you follow our prep and aftercare instructions closely. Moisturizing and drinking lots of water are also vital to your tan fading as beautifully as possible. Unfortunately, the way your tan fades does not have anything to do with the salon or your technician’s application.
